Scripture Truths

It's much simpler than I ever realized. The Old Testament is a shadow of things to come... the entire Old Testament points to Jesus - the Lamb of God.

"Some of the most dramatic examples of fulfilled Bible prophecies are concerning Jesus Christ.  Note these specific prophecies about Jesus Christ that were literally fulfilled"

Hundreds of Bible prophecies have been fulfilled through the ages ...here are just a few.  This information was obtained from RBC Ministries.  Please scroll down to read the actual Scriptures. These are taken from the NIV.   Shalom!

VIRGIN- Born

Old Testament PROPHECY

Isaiah 7:14   Therefore the LORD himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.

Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be.  But the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God.  You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus.  He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High.  The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end.

"How will this be," Mary asked the angel, "since I am a virgin?"

The angel answered,  " The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you.  So the holy one to be born will be called Son of God. "

TRIUMPHAL ENTRY

This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet:  "Say to the Daughter of Zion, 'See, your king comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.' "

The disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them.  They brought the donkey and the colt, placed their cloaks on them, and Jesus sat on them.  A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road.  The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted,

"Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!" "Hosanna in the highest!"

When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, "Who is this?"  The crowds answered,  "This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee."

Betrayed by a Friend

Old Testament PROPHECY

Psalm 41:9   Even my close friend who I trusted, he who shared my bread, has lifted up his heel against me.

New Testament FULFILLMENT

Matthew 26:20-25  When evening came, Jesus was reclining at the table with the Twelve.  And while they were eating, he said,

"I tell you the truth, one of you will betray me."

They were very sad and began to say to him one after the other, "Surely not I, Lord?"  Jesus replied,

"The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me will betray me.  The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him.  But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man!  It would be better for him if he had not been born."

Then Judas, the one who would betray him, said, "Surely not I, Rabbi?"  Jesus answered,

"Yes, it is you."

 Falsely Accused

Old Testament PROPHECY

Psalm 35:11   Ruthless witnesses come forward; they question me on things I know nothing about.

New Testament FULFILLMENT

Matthew 26: 59-68     The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for false evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death but they did not find any, though many false witnesses came forward.  Finally two came forward and declared, "This fellow said, ' I am able to destroy the temple of God and rebuild it in three days'."

Then the high priest stood up and said to Jesus, "Are you not going to answer?  What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?"  But Jesus remained silent.

The high priest said to him, "I charge you under oath by the living God: Tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God."

"Yes, it is as you say," Jesus replied.  "But I say to all of you:  In the future you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven."

Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, "He has spoken blasphemy!  Why do we need any more witnesses?  Look, now you have heard the blasphemy.  What do you think?"  "He is worthy of death," they answered.

Then they spit in his face and struck him with their fists.  Others slapped him and said, "Prophesy to us, Christ.  Who hit you?"

Silent before ccusers

Old Testament PROPHECY

Isaiah 53:7   He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth;  he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearer is silent, so he did not open his mouth.

New Testament FULFILLMENT

Matthew 27: 12-14     When he was accused by the chief priests and elders, he gave no answer.  Then Pilate asked him, "Don't you hear the testimony they are bringing against you?"  But Jesus made no reply, not even to a single charge- to the great amazement of the governor.

Hands and feet pierced

Old Testament PROPHECY

Psalm 22:16    Dogs have surrounded me; a band of evil men has encircled me, they have pierced my hands and my feet.

New Testament FULFILLMENT

John 20:25  So the other disciples told him, "We have seen the Lord!"  But he ( Thomas) said to them, "Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe it."

John 20: 27  Then he said to Thomas,

"Put your finger here; see my hands.  Reach out your hand and put it into my side.  Stop doubting and believe."

Crucified with Robbers

Old Testament PROPHECY

Isaiah 53:12    Therefore I will give him a portion among the great, and he will divide the spoils with the strong, because he poured out his life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors.  For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

New Testament FULFILLMENT

Matthew 27:38   Two robbers were crucified with him, one on his right and one on his left.

  Lots Cast for Clothes

Old Testament PROPHECY

Psalm 22:18    They divide my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing.

New Testament FULFILLMENT

John 19: 23 & 24    When the soldiers crucified Jesus, they took his clothes, dividing them into four shares, one for each of them, with the undergarment remaining.  This garment was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom.  "Let's not tear it, " they said to one another.  "Let's decide by lot who will get it."

This happened that the scriptures might be fulfilled which said, "They divided my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing."  So this is what the soldiers did.

Bones not Broken

Old Testament PROPHECY

Psalm 34:20   ...he protects all his bones, not one of them will be broken.

New Testament FULFILLMENT

John 19: 33 & 34    But when they came to Jesus and found that he was already dead, they did not break his legs.  Instead, one of the soldiers pierced Jesus' side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water.

Thirsted on the Cross

Old Testament PROPHECY

Psalm 22:15   My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth;  you lay me in the dust of death.

New Testament FULFILLMENT

John 19: 28   Later, knowing that all was now completed, and so that the Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said,

"I am thirsty."

Buried in Tomb of Rich

Old Testament PROPHECY

Isaiah 53:9   He was assigned a grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death, though had done no violence, nor was any deceit in his mouth.

New Testament FULFILLMENT

Matthew 27: 57-60   As evening approached, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who had himself become a disciple of Jesus.  Going to Pilate, he asked for Jesus' body, and Pilate ordered that it be given to him.  Joseph took the body, wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, and placed it in his own new tomb that he had cut out of the rock.  He rolled a big stone in front of the entrance to the tomb and went away.
